I saw this thread over on Dark Reign and just had to post it for the artists here, believing that it might inspire people to new heights...

Enjoy, because I certainly did! Cheesy

Aye, I believe Malika posted a link to this in his inspirational thread. It's been posted on our boards before anyway. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful collection of sketches.

What's this cunning plan then, eh? Eh? Smiley

If I remember correctly Haarken posted this on our old forum as well. It's cool stuff nonetheless though! The Soviets made from pretty cool stuff, I mean look at the Lomonosov University in Moscow, just look how big it is!  Shocked

well... those images are right out of the 40k imperium... so you take todays skylines / buildings / images and you simply  "gothicise them" in order to transport them to the 40k universe. quick, simple, but in theory incredibly effective.

it just never occurred to me before... (d'oh)

No worries (why am I saying that to the guy in charge here?) about that, it's good to see that it has inspired Oink to potentially make some new artwork for us!  Wink

I remember seeing these before and thought they were ideal. I really like the Lomonosov University pic as it show that the Imperium could be quite bright yet still be very, um, 'Imperial'!  Grin

It doesn't have to be all grim, dark and decaying with tons of gunturrets on every rooftop! Wink

In other words...while the dark/gothic/whatever style really sets the mood for 40k, I would be more interested to see a more realistic picture of a 40k city being made. This means that it would probably still have that same gothic style (doesn't have to be, doubt all Imperial cities are like that, but that's besides the point) but less of the whole "darkness and misery just for the hell of it!".

The Imperium must have a few new builds on the go, not everything is hundreds or thousands of years old   Wink

I would be good, though I would add that looking at our world much of it is a complete mess but a few areas are 'shinny'. I was thinking that uni you posted was more appropriate for the leadership or elite areas, where the vast bulk of the Imperium's citizens can only imagine living and look on from afar.

After all every city has an under class and slums somewhere. I think the Imperium probably puts them underground (out of sight - out off mind) like the homeless in the old subways. Tragic, but is allows those with thoughts of superiority to feel good about themselves and isn't that what is important to the Imperial nobles - to (illusion) of paradise?
