Hey guys,
I'll be entering this year's GothiComp, but before I submit my.. erm, submissions, I thought I'd post them here and ask for feedback. Maybe I can make some changes before I send them in.

First up, my super-heavy barge.

Next up, Scarlet Harbinger, and then possibly my Sororitas convent barge, galleon sprint trader and finally the space hulk.

Looks good, guy
I am a little out of touch about these new models.  Is this a scratch build?  I recognize the Chaos bridge section, and some other bits, but that proves nothing. GW also re-uses bits to make "new" models.
Myself, I am using old "Space Fleet" models for special vessels like "fast civilian transports" or "system ships".  The original "firestorm" model is tiny, and works better for me than the even tinier sytem ships first put forward by GW.  A convoy in our games can have 5 or 6 different ship types on the table.  I even have an original factory ship from Space Fleet.  It gets used, to be sure.   I always have an eye out for new ship types to add to my fleets.
Let's see more of your goodies soon.

Thanks guys. The ship is indeed a scratch-build from various components. You can read about it in the next issue of Warp Rift, hopefully Wink

Would love to see some of your OOP ships as well, Fringe.

For now, here's a WIP Adepta Sororitas convent barge. It's basically a carrier with very little anti-ship armament, but plenty of Nephilim assault boatsCool

Okay CELS,
I put what pictures I have of ships only at:

http://s298.photobucket.com/albums/mm248/GalacticFringe/

I have more Imperial, and about four more Ork, ships in work.  Mostly repainting, and some repairs.  I inherited some ships from an Imperial player who "had enough" for his Imperial fleet, and preferred his Dark Eldar, anyway.  Having played another game using my Marine fleet yesterday, I think I'm going to paint up some of the Imperial in my Marine colors, and attach them there.  Hmm.... have ta run!  Later!

Thanks, Waazag. I don't think I have a chance of winning GothiComp, but at least it's encouraged me to finish the BFG projects I've been wanting to do for ages now. Smiley

Fringe, it seems we have entirely different ideas about what colours to use when painting BFG ships, but I certainly have to say that your fleets are quite impressive none the less!

Here is an Alpha Legion cruiser I've been working on lately. Took quite a while compared to how simple the conversion looks (converting the prow, getting the battle damage right, converting the bridge...). I'm not quite happy with the colours, because it was a mix between making it look like it once belonged to Battlefleet Anargo and then not making it look too Imperial. Oh, and obviously, the entire idea was nicked from Kotor and the Sith ship, the Ravager. I won't post the background here, but basically it's an old wreck serving as the flagship of an ancient Alpha Legionnaire.
(Unlike all other Chaos warlords, he didn't waste money on painting the entire ship in more evil colours after salvaging it!  Grin )
Here goes;

Hey hey, CELS!
Are you holding back your better, and better, and haven't shown your best yet???  Each looks better than the last.  Without trying to 'steal' all your secrets, are you lengthening the hulls you modify with more ship pieces, or building around wood/other material extra sections?  Any lengthening I've tried always came out shaped more like a boomerang.  The joints can't take the strain.
As to colors, well, I figure that the only possible camoflage in space is black, or distance.  Since these battles in BFG are supposed to be hundres of thousands of kilometers apart, any dark color/light color contrast will work as well as any other.  If I figure such things right, sensors for energy emmisions pinpoint where vessels are in space, not visible reflected light.  So even an all-over polished stainless steel hull would just be another star in someone's night sky.  That's another reason I like this stuff.  All my friends and opponents can do what they want, and it is no better or worse than my own, and makes no difference to 'camoflaging' ships at such distances.  I suppose some bomber and assault boat pilots could be startled by some of the color schemes I've seen, but nobody believes them anyway!  I wish you could have seen the rainbow color scheme one fellow had, it actually looked quite impressive.
I am definitely curious about the other vessels you teased us with.  Even WIP pics would be juicy eye candy, judging by what I've seen so far.  Can't wait.

Many thanks, Fringe! In the last ship, I didn't lengthen the hull, I just filled in the gap behind the arrow-head prow and the main bulk of the ship. Two half-circles, to be exact. In the case of my Inquisitorial black ship, I lengthened the hull by just gluing together two Chaos ships and then adding a 2 mm thick slice of plasticard between them. As long as you're careful to file down the adjoining parts in a 90 degree angle, the ship will come out straight. You could also just add a plastic or metal rod inside the ship to keep it straight, but unless the adjoining parts are filed at right angles, you'll end up with big gaps anyway. So I'm afraid I have no good advice, except to be very careful when filing Smiley

Sounds interesting, yeah. But I agree about camouflage, it probably doesn't matter since the advanced targeters used in 40k would rely on electro-magnetic radiation anyway. I figure that if some ships are painted in the Imperium, it's just for the sake of showing off and trying to impress both enemies and citizens of the Imperium.

I am definitely curious about the other vessels you teased us with.  Even WIP pics would be juicy eye candy, judging by what I've seen so far.  Can't wait.
Quickly running out of stuff to show now, but thanks Smiley

Good luck mate. Smiley
Thanks. I don't think I'm in a position to win anything, but it feels good having completed these projects anyway Smiley

Like the new ships! The SoB ship looks amazing! Alpha Legion ship is also very cool, the colourscheme is a bit off though, while it looks very good it doesn´t give me a real vibe as if it used to belong to Battlefleet Anargo. But maybe that´s just me.  Shocked

Well, I could have painted it in the exact same colours, used a brighter blue, added more white and gold details, but then I don't think the ship would look menacing enough. And I did want the ship to look as menacing as the Ravager that inspired it. Besides, I always figured that the really High Gothic / High Imperial style of decoration, the excessive almost baroque style would be something that appeared in the later millennia of the Imperium. This is a really old vessel, and if you look at the Horus Heresy artwork everything is more simplistic and modern. There's less scrolls and skulls and ornate decorations. So I figured that it would be better to use a simplistic colour scheme, like the Republic ships from the first 3 Star Wars episodes.
