Anything posted in this topic can be used by Anargo.
It isn't going to be made specifically for Anargo, but it will be usable by you guys.
Sketches, speed-paintings, arm-ups and personal little illustrations suiting for ASP will be posted here.

There might be times when nothing gets uploaded here, those times I simply have too much to do to paint anything else but work. Other times there might be alot popping up here.

Anything specific for ASP will get its own topic.

First out,
Generic Chaplain speed-painting. 1hr.

Fantastic looking Maledictor Chaplain (Ok I know he's not specifically a Maledictor but he may as well be  Grin).  1hr? You're suspiciously talented, I suspect a pact with the dark gods... Great work as usual Colrouphobia, makes me wish I could draw just half as well you can.

Haarken

PS. The skull creeps me out a little more every time I look at it, absolutely fantastic!

Indeed, very nice. I particularly like the fact that the helmet is not actually a perfect skull shape, but the skull-shape has been moulded on a recognisable Astartes helmet.

Shouldn't there be a cross on his Rosarius though? Or is it just a pearl necklace? Wink

Actually, see that light? That's the rosarius... it's a speedy Wink Not everything is one hundred % rendered (nothing is in fact :p)

Haarken- practice, practice, practice Wink nothing suspicious about it...

Malika- oneliners are so easily avoided you know..like adding a second row containing a paranthesed (?!) sentence Wink  but thanks for the compliment.

It's really not that big a deal guys. Basically I just give away things not really the best of quality here...I'm hoping it will give me back some of that "yeah, he helps" shine I once had (for a brief moment).. Wink

So it has been a long time since I posted anything here, for various reasons.

Here are some concepts for the Facial Features of Leman Russ.
Im painting Russ as a personal project and am in the conceptual phaze right now.

Going from oldest to youngest version. Most likely I will be doing a slightly more middle-aged version of Russ, and yes, Im doing facial hair.. Russ hasn't really been depicted with facial hair to my knowledge, I just find it suiting.

These are 5-10min sketches and it's the face that is being explored.
I will do similar stuff for his armour, weaponry and regalia. (regalia= Cup of Wulfen, Sword of Russ, Wolf Helmet of Russ etc etc).

So I guess this means you won't be working on those portraits then? Shame.

I agree that Leman Russ should have facial hair. Seeing as how the Space Wolves are based on the viking culture, vikings who didn't have facial hair were considered lesser men. That said, I like the 'oldest' image and the first two, but the leap between 2 and 3 is a bit off, in my eyes. 1 and 2 are similar, and then 3, 4 and 5 are similar. But there is not a lot of facial similarity between 2 and 3, as I see it.

Other than that, cool stuff.

Who sais I havent completed the portraits Wink

Im waiting for something to happend, we'll see what it gives.

The faces arent supposed to be similar, they are supposed to be unlike eachother as Im exploring different types of faces for the final painting.

Ah, my bad. In that case, I would definitely go for the Wulfen-one. If Sanguinius could have wings and Magnus could have one eye, I think Leman Russ could look like a werewolf. The other sketches are good, but they're not really as interesting. Number 2-4 look like generic Space Wolves and number 1 (the youngest one) looks like Ragnar Blackmane. Not totally inappropriate, that, but I just think it's interesting if by looking at Leman Russ, one would understand why the Space Wolves look the way they do. Literally seeing the curse of the Wulfen in his face is interesting.

Personally i think the last face is the best, it is leaner and has a more feral look i feel, although i think the teeth could be done better. Smiley

Sometimes in writing I've flirted with the idea that he can basically manipulate the curse of the Wulfen within himself.  Sort of like the way that GW implies that Sanguinius' madness is only a temporary thing.

All of this looks fantastic, especially Russ.

That's the coolest idea I've heard all day.

Sanguinius' madness? What exactly is that? I thought he was more likely to be one of the Primarch's more in control of himself rather than having a madness element in there.

I really like those Leman Russ pictures by the way, however, unlike the rest here I seem to like the younger version way more than the older.

As for the Wulfen idea, it's interesting...definitely like the "corruption/mutation" bit in there like Sanguinius, Magnus (is he still a Cyclops or just a big red guy with one eye poked out by the way?), Konrad Curze, Lograr and Corax. It would also be fitting due to his rivalry with Lion El Johnson, who is a clean (not mutated or anything) Primarch, but whose loyalty to the Emperor, unlike Russ, is kind of debatable.

I actually wondered about this myself, but didn't bring it up. As I recall it, it was everyone else who went mad, not Sanguinius. And they just went mad from his psychic death shriek.

Of all the human ones, I prefer the youngest one. I just think the Wulfen idea is too cool to pass on. A werewolf Primarch? Come on!

Indeed. Not to mention that Lion El Jonson spent his early years wiping out chaos corrupted creatures from Caliban. Who knows how he regarded his mutated brethren?
