Right, this is obviously very WIP, but while writing about the Ordos Anargo, I felt compelled to design a Black Ship for the Anargo sector. Since the Chaos ships look so awesome (Basically a 40k version of Star Destroyers), and since I'd already drawn a Black Ship / Nullship like this, I figured I'd do a conversion based on chaos ships. As you can see, it's just a longer version of a chaos cruiser with added Imperial bits (bridge, statue, weapon battery, horizontal wings, antennae in the shape of =][= ). Eventually, I will probably make some modifications to its stern, to make it more Imperial and less Chaos-y, and add plasticard and greenstuff to make the prow more like this.

Special rules:

-   Inquisitorial armies: Double boarding value
-   Advanced engines: +1D6 All Ahead
-   Legendary ship: In scenarios with renown, -1 renown if the Scarlet Harbinger is crippled or destroyed, otherwise +1
-   Space Marine Leadership table (i.e. Ld 7-10 instead of 6-9)

The Scarlet Harbinger
The Scarlet Harbinger is the most prominent warship of the Ordos Anargo, the Holy Orders of the Inquisition in the Anargo sector. While other Black Ships commonly remain unidentified by other branches of the Imperium due to the secretive nature of their missions, the Scarlet Harbinger is known and feared throughout the Esquiline Quadrant. It is erroneously considered the flagship of the Ordos Anargo, although the Ordos Anargo have no formal battlefleet as such, and has been commandeered by the Ordos’ Grand Master on several occasions.

Built in the colossal shipyards of Mars itself, the Scarlet Harbinger belongs to a relatively new class of Black Ships, augmenting ancient hull designs with many of the Mechanicus’ most recent innovations. While almost as long as a grand cruiser, it is built around a much sleeker frame, almost in the shape of a jagged dagger cutting through the blackness of space. While fragile compared to the heavier warships of Battlefleet Anargo, it is equipped with a tremendous arsenal compared to vessels of similar displacement, capable of launching great waves of attack craft while unleashing an impressive long range barrage.

The Scarlet Harbinger was built in 717.M39, appearing in the Anargo sector less than a quarter-year after its completion. While the Admirals of Battlefleet Anargo have long been curious to find its base of operations, the Scarlet Harbinger uses primarily the forge tenders of Anargo Secundus for maintenance, supply and minor repairs. It has only docked on Mechanicus forgeworlds on a handful occasions, when in need of more significant repairs.  Not only does the assistance of forge tenders give the Scarlet Harbinger a much improved mobility, allowing it to constantly sail throughout the sector, but it also makes it all but impossible for spies within the Imperium to be sure of its location even for a moment.

Very cool ship! Love to see a finished design. Story is fitting as well.

The stats:
I compare it to a Mars Battlecruiser since that is the closest one.

Mars 270 points (roughly done)
A Mars has 2 turrets less (+10 pts for the Scarlett)
A Mars has 1 extra dorsal lance (-15 pts for the Scarlett)
A Mars has no assault boats (+10 pts for the Scarlett)
A Mars has 6+ prow (-20 pts for the Scarlett)

That would give: 255 points for the Scarlett Harbringer, now add special rules:

-   Inquisitorial armies: Double boarding value (20 pts)
-   Advanced engines: +1D6 All Ahead (15 pts (incl +5cm base speed)
-   Legendary ship: In scenarios with renown, -1 renown if the Scarlet Harbinger is crippled or destroyed, otherwise +1 (0)
-   Space Marine Leadership table (i.e. Ld 7-10 instead of 6-9) (It is 8,9,10 for Marines : 15pts)

255 plus all the extra's = 305 exactly.

Good job.  Smiley

(A conversion guide + painting guide + these rules = Great Warp Rift Material  Wink)

Thanks a lot for your feedback, horizon! Great to see that your calculations matched up with my point cost, especially since I had actually based the point cost on an Adeptus Mechanicus upgrade of the Dictator class cruiser (hence the nova cannon, single dorsal lance and long ranged batteries). The fact that we got the same point cost while calculating in two different ways can only be a good thing.

And rest assured, conversion guide, painting guide and rules will be made readily available Smiley

A very interesting ship you have there Cels, I really like the combination of Chaos and Imperial parts, I’m just getting into BFG seriously so I can’t wait to see the conversion and painting guide. It might just be the angle that it’s shot at but I’m not really digging the “wings”, I think they’d look better a little further back. Looking forward to seeing it painted. Smiley

That is a nice looking conversion CELS, I agree with Haarken though that the 'wings' might look better a little further back.  The rules for it seem quite good and well balanced too, though I might suggest that as it is a bit bigger than a cruiser you up it to grand cruiser mass (10 hits).  I presume that one of the launch bay sections is the cargo hold?

What do you mean with Cargohold?

The Launch bays are the (bit triangular shaped) parts on the hull, two next to each other, both in a different grey-tone then the rest of the hull.

Those are standard Chaos Launchbays.

The ship has a total of 4 launchbays (so 2 launchbay pairs/'sections') but the suggested profile only gives it a launch capacity of 4 squadrons, which would be typical for a ship with two launchbays.  As the primary function of the Black Ships is the collection of psykers it would need cargo holds/passenger sections to house the psykers I was hypothesising that the 2 'spare' launchbays are in fact these cargo holds/passenger sections.

Well, I didn't really have stats in mind when I designed it. Or actually, I did, but I thought "Screw it, it looks better with 4 launch bays". I figure you can either use upgraded cruiser stats to represent it (as I have), or upgraded grand cruiser stats (there's a chaos grand cruiser with 4 launch bays).

Here's the latest picture. I think I'm nearing completion. I have abandoned the wings, since I couldn't find a good way to use them. What do you think? It's hard to get a sense of its shape, due to the white plasticard bits, but eventually it'll have a more Star Destroyer-like shape than regular Chaos Cruisers, because it's got more of that flat and broad shape.

Ooh I'm liking the progress Cels, it's really coming along. Are those the Forgeworld brass eagles I see?  Great plasticard work, can't wait to see this painted up.  Grin
